We are a 'go' for yoga this evening, 7:00pm at Milford Lantz United Church, lower level. Hope to see lots of you there! It is a cool space...literally and figuratively!
I'd forgotten how much I like to sew! I decided recently to craft some eye pillows for use at our yoga classes and was quite surprised to find that my 35 year-old sewing machine still worked! And I still remembered how to use it. I made my own uniforms when I was nursing but I kind of let that hobby slip to the sidelines when I started exploring other career paths.
Here are a few pictures of the process of individually crafting these eye pillow additions to our class.
People often ask how yoga is different than stretching, and the truth is, yoga includes stretching, but it is much more than stretching. Yoga utilizes the muscles' abilities in an advanced and functional way, combining stretching with movement, strength training, balance work and breathing techniques to facilitate the following health and wellness effects:
Our schedule is firming up. We have 15 classes on the calendar and they are as follows:

Starting July 12- Aug. 23
exception is Aug. 9.

There isn't a class scheduled for this evening (Monday, June 11). However, depending on interest we could have a class on Wednesday evening. The Saturday, June 9 Chair/Gentle Yoga class will be held at Riverside Education Centre, Milford. Drop-in fee or use one of your prepaid coupons. This class will be beneficial to anyone who has mobility/balance/chronic pain issues, or who just want a soft, calm yoga experience. See you Saturday at REC.
This Saturday morning chair/gentle (June 2) session is canceled to make sacred space for Bill Preeper's funeral. I wonder, though, who would be interested in having the class this Wednesday evening May 30 instead?
$10 drop-in or use one of your pre-purchased coupons.
Tonight is the last of the Monday make-up days. We start fresh again after tonight!
I am investigating the possibility of continuing Mondays through the summer. I am waiting to hear about space availability. I am also looking at Thursday 10-11:00am as an added possibility for July and August.
I understand the unsettled nature of the summer season and you might not want to commit to a specific class time. In that light, I am offering packs of 5 class coupons for $45.00 that can be used for any class offering for the summer months. The class packs will expire two months after purchase. The chair/gentle yoga class that is now in-session on Saturday morning is included as an option to use the coupons.
Let me know if you are interested in this particular offer!
So I'll see you tonight (except for those who have already sent their regrets!) and as always, drop-ins are welcome.
Summer is approaching quickly and there seems to be a natural decline in participation in formal yoga classes as the weather improves. Our time is spent on activities that are denied us during the long winter months. Gardening, lawn and yard care, traveling and other outdoor recreation are great ways to get exercise and are very exciting pastimes. And it is easy to skip your class in favour of these other pursuits. But, these activities also put extra stress on our bodies and extra concerns in our psyches and over time you notice that something is missing.
It's the breath, the mindfulness and the peace of mind that comes with the shared practice. When you stop, you notice the absence. You know yoga is much more than an exercise class. And, you know you need that peaceful easy feeling in summer too!
Stay safe out there!
